The release date was announced during the God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 (July 24, Ballroom 20). Multiple outlets — IGN, Polygon, Collider, Winter is Coming, and Shane the Gamer — all reported the same February 16, 2027 date, and Wikipedia's franchise entry now cites it from the IGN report.
Exact unlock time (Aug 2026 store update): As of mid-August 2026, the official PlayStation game page and PS Store concept page show “Releases on: 2/16/2027 01:00 PM UTC” — the first time the exact unlock moment has appeared on an official PlayStation storefront. For players in other regions, that moment converts to:

Editions signal: The same official page now carries an “Editions:”label with no content attached — the storefront has reserved space for edition listings before any have been announced. Combined with the “pre-orders will go live closer to release” wording, it suggests an edition/pre-order reveal is approaching (gamescom ONL on Aug 25 is the nearest candidate window).
Why a disc mattered: The announcement came shortly after Sony said it would stop production of PlayStation discs from 2028, which sparked community backlash. Santa Monica Studio confirmed Laufey would ship an on-disc physical edition, and the dated release followed. (One note from IGN's live panel stream briefly misread the date as “February 26”; the final, cross-verified date is February 16.)
How we got here:Before SDCC, the date was unconfirmed but heavily signaled. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier noted on Bluesky that the game “isn't years away.” Push Square analysis pointed to a likely 2027 Q1–Q2 window based on the unusually polished 20-minute uninterrupted gameplay demo and SSM's traditional March–May launch pattern. Industry insider NateTheHate — who had already accurately leaked the Faye protagonist reveal, the action-oriented design, and the June 2026 announcement timing back on March 1, 2026 — reaffirmed on June 4 a target of “1st half 2027, barring any delay.” All of those signals are now validated by the official February 16, 2027 date.
Release Window Context: A Stacked February 2027
February 2027 is shaping up to be one of the most crowded release months in recent memory, and Laufey lands right in the middle of it. Kotaku (Aug 3), Polygon, and ResetEra all flag the pile-up: Laufey ships one day after Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and two days before Persona 4 Revival, with Fable and Metro arriving later the same month.

Will It Come to PC?
A PC version has not been confirmed. Sony has brought earlier God of War titles to PC later, so players may reasonably watch for that possibility, but there is no official PC commitment yet.

The game is now dated and shipping on disc. Several earlier signals had already pointed to this level of production maturity:
