Norse Mythology in God of War

The modern God of War era lives and breathes Norse mythology. The Nine Realms — Midgard, Asgard, Jotunheim, Alfheim, Helheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim, Svartalfheim, and Vanaheim — served as the backdrop for Kratos and Atreus' journey. God of War Laufey continues this Norse foundation while expanding into new mythological territories.

  • Midgard — The realm of humans, Kratos' home
  • Asgard — Realm of the Aesir gods (destroyed in Ragnarök)
  • Jotunheim — Realm of the Giants, Faye's homeland
  • Alfheim — Realm of the Light and Dark Elves
  • Helheim — The realm of the dead
  • Muspelheim — Realm of fire, home of Surtr
  • Niflheim — Realm of mist and poison
  • Svartalfheim — Realm of the dwarves
  • Vanaheim — Realm of the Vanir gods

Key Mythological Figures

  • Týr — God of War, still alive after Ragnarök
  • Freyja — Leader of the Vanir
